Letter From David

Dear Golf Fans,

I just finished the first round at the Wachovia Championship. My back is feeling better and more importantly I started making some putts. There is still a lot of golf to be played, but I’m definitely pleased with my start.

After missing a month of golf with a bad back, I made my return at The Masters. I made the cut in Augusta and at the Verizon the next week, but my putter just couldn’t get the ball into the hole. I made a lot of putts today, which is why the scoring was so much better.

This will be the start of a 4-week stretch of golf. Next week I head to Ponte Vedra for the TPC. It’s obviously a great event with the best field in golf. However, I’ve not had much success on that course. Hopefully that will change this year.

I will likely play the AT&T in Atlanta before heading over to Ft. Worth for The Colonial. I’ve said it many times that Colonial is my favorite course that we play on Tour. I’ve never won in Ft. Worth, but I’ve had a lot of top 5 and top 10 finishes. Maybe this will be the year that I break through and put on the plaid jacket.

I was off last week and watched three of my son’s baseball games. His team is undefeated and I really enjoy watching him play. He broke his thumb right before the season, but he has a special cast that still allows him to play. I wish I could watch all of his games, but when I’m not there I have friends giving me frequent updates from the ballpark.

I’m also excited about a new restaurant that is coming to Shreveport. I’m part owner of Bistro Byronz, a casual dining restaurant that is set to open in early July. There is one location currently open in Baton Rouge, and I really like the food and the atmosphere.

I’ve always wanted the opportunity to be involved in the right restaurant, and I feel that Bistro Byronz is a perfect fit for me. I’m sure I will be giving you more updates on the restaurant as we get closer to the grand opening.

Thanks for all your support. I hope you get the opportunity to play some golf before the weather gets too hot.

Sincerely,

 David Toms

David’s
Tip of the Week

When trying to hit the ball on a downhill lie, you should try and get your shoulders as parallel to the slope as possible. The ball should be in the back of your stance, and your uphill knee should stay flexed. Take a ¾ backswing and keep your hands ahead of the clubhead through impact.
